Dr. Georgios S. Papavasileiou is a Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) and Subject Lead in Civil Engineering at the University of the West of Scotland, as well as a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (Advance HE). He holds a Diploma (5-year combined BEng. & MEng.) in ‘Civil Engineering’ (2007) and a MSc. in ‘New Materials and Technologies in the Design of Reinforced Concrete Structures’ with emphasis on
Earthquake Engineering (2008) from the Democritus University of Thrace and a MSc. in ‘Engineering Project Management’ from the Hellenic Open University (2017). He also holds a PDA in ‘Teaching Practice in Scotland’s Colleges’ and a PgCert in ‘Tertiary and Higher Education’ from the University of the Highlands and Islands. He has worked as a Professional Civil Engineer in Greece and Cyprus (2008-2018).
After receiving his PhD. in ‘Civil Engineering’ from the University of Cyprus (2014), he worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the University of Cyprus (2014-2015) and the University of West Attica (2015-2017) under scholarship of excellence (IKY-Siemens program). Before joining the University of the West of Scotland, he held academic positions at the University of Applied Sciences of Thessaly (2016-2018) and the Mediterranean College (2017-2018) in Greece, as well as the University of the Highlands and Islands (2018-2020) and the University of Wolverhampton (2020-2022) in the UK. He has served as supervisor of 21 undergraduate, 8 postgraduate and 3 doctoral dissertations.
His publication record comprises amongst others 38 peer-reviewed journal and conference papers, 2 books and 5 theses and has been cited by numerous research works. He serves as a reviewer for 31 international scientific journals. His research combines the fields of structural and computational engineering with emphasis on sustainable structural design and retrofit and his work has received awards in Greece and the UK.
